Neighborhood Counseling Group
For the Neighborhood Program, AFY staff venture into communities to identify and assist youth who are in need of counseling services, which includes disenfranchised youth or individuals labeled as “gang members.” AFY staff first build rapport and trust with the group by engaging them in weekly activities, which are decided by the youth.
RT is applied during the Neighborhood Program to address violence and academic achievement among high-risk youth within our communities. Since AFY’s inception, the Neighborhood Program has resulted in services provided to 68 gangs, 33 of which have been dissolved.
In this video we have our AFY youth, Katchen, sharing his experience while being apart of AFY. We also have our very own, Jackie Espejo, who is the Group Leader sharing her experience as well.
